New Book Features Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality is still a growing tool in the marketer’s tool kit. Here’s another example; a book associated with the video game Journey gets enhanced through Augmented Reality.

“Journey” captured players’ hearts and imaginations when it was released on the PlayStation Network in February. The game primarily used visuals to move the player forward in a desert world. Now those visuals are captured in an art book that uses augmented reality to bring in-game features to life on the page.
“The Art of Journey” has more than 180 pages of content, covering character, enemy and world illustrations. It also features fan art inspired by the game.
The book also uses augmented reality on a free app to bring characters from the game to life on your phone’s screen. The app, which works with Android and iOS, corresponds to pages with specific markings. Point your phone at one and 3D characters will spring to life from the page. You can even circle around them to get the full picture.
Although the AR features of the book aren’t used a lot, they add to experience and represent the depth of a game world, opening the door for future uses in print media for games.
