First Class rates approved
The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) has approved the proposed First Class rates that the United States Postal Service (USPS) plans to put into effect on April 26th 2015. However, the PRC did not approve the rates for Standard Mail that were proposed by USPS. Regarding the proposed Standard rates, the PRC stated:
In Standard Mail, certain unequal commercial and nonprofit discounts, certain workshare discounts, and the Postal Service’s methodology for calculating certain billing determinants do not comply with applicable legal requirements.
When changing rates, the USPS is required to give a 45-day notice. Because it seems almost certain that USPS plans to implement new rates on April 26th, we expect the USPS to turn around the remanded case by the end of this week with the hope of gaining approval to increase Standard Mail rates.
We will keep you informed about the progress of the case and expect to provide final approved postal rate charts sometime next week.
